Man accused of beating mother to death with baseball bat
A 38-year-old Wisconsin man, Hayward Jenkins, has been charged with first-degree intentional homicide after allegedly beating his 66-year-old mother, Cheryl Jenkins, to death with a baseball bat following a domestic dispute.
According to police, officers responded to Cheryl Jenkins’ residence last Tuesday at about 8 a.m. after her fiancé contacted emergency services.
He told authorities that Hayward Jenkins had spent the previous night in the home’s guest room but was nowhere to be found when they discovered Cheryl lying face down on the floor.
Investigators said they recovered a wooden baseball bat covered in blood resting on top of the victim’s body. Police also observed a severe head injury consistent with a violent assault.

Authorities said surveillance footage captured the suspect leaving the apartment complex and boarding a bus at approximately 6 a.m. Officers later tracked him to the Potawatomi Casino Hotel, where he was arrested around 12:30 p.m. after relatives provided information about his possible location.
According to a criminal complaint cited by local media, Jenkins told investigators that he had argued with his mother over silver coins. He claimed she threatened him with a pair of scissors, prompting him to grab the baseball bat in anger.
The complaint further stated that Jenkins admitted striking his mother multiple times and later confessed to police that he was “wrong for murdering my mother.”
He has since been charged with one count of first-degree intentional homicide. A court set his bond at $300,000, and he remains in custody as authorities continue their investigation into the incident.
