Military engage Boko Haram in heavy gun battle in Maiduguri
By OKOSUN DENNIS
All is not well in the North East Nigeria as the Nigerian troops have engaged Boko Haram terrorists in a fierce battle as explosions and gunfire have characterised the city of Maiduguri, the Borno state capital.
It was learnt that the insurgent have been attacking Dailori and Walonri villages, on the outskirts of Maiduguri which was said to have began early Saturday evening.
Students of the University of Maiduguri residing at 202 Housing Estate are reported to be running for their lives as the conflict rages.
A political science student of the school, Hauwa Ba’na, said: ”We are crying in our hostel because the explosions are loud and everyone is panicking and in deep shock as the attacks are raging.”
A resident confirmed: ”We are under attack by Boko Haram. There is heavy fighting with military in Dalori and Wanori.”
It would be recalled that a suicide bomber had on Friday detonated a suicide vest at a
crowded market in Gombi town in Adamawa state killing about 20 people including the bomber.
