Minister donates sports arena to Ogbomoso, Oyo State, pledges more
Minister of Youths and Sports Development, Chief Sunday Dare, donated a sports arena to youths in Ogbomoso, his hometown in Oyo State on Sunday.
The News Agency of Nigeria reports that the sports arena built by the Daniel Ayoola Dare Foundation was inaugurated by Hon. Gunju Ojo, former Speaker, and Oyo State House of Assembly.
Hon Gunju Ojo, former Speaker, Oyo State House of Assembly, inaugurating the Sports Arena donated to Ogbomoso by the Minister of Sports, Chief Sunday Dare on Sunday in Ogbomoso.
The sports arena is to serve all the five local governments and seven Local Council Development Areas in Ogbomoso.
NAN reports that the arena houses a table-tennis court, a lawn tennis court, mini football pitch, indoor sports hall and an empowerment centre.
The minister, who is also the Agbaakin of Ogbomoso, said the facility was established as a platform to discover and develop talents to compete on the world stage of sports.
He charged youths in Ogbomoso to make good use of the facility, promising to do more for the community.
Dare enjoined the youths to emulate the likes of Aruna Quadri, who is from Oyo Town in the state as role model, and jettisoning social vices.
The event featured several sporting events including a novelty five-a-side match between the Sports Writers Association of Nigeria (SWAN), Oyo State Chapter team and Team Dare.
NAN reports that Dare had earlier facilitated and donated several other projects to the town as a way of giving back to his community.
He roofed the Sọun Township Stadium Pavilion, provided free eye glasses and donated a bus to the newly-established Federal Polytechnic, Ayede.
The minister had also donated hostels to Federal Polytechnic, Ayede, and facilitated 80-bed capacity hospital and facilitated the renovation of the National Youth Development Centre in Iresa-apa Town in the past.
He facilitated a N1.3 billion ecological project, trained youths in entrepreneurship skills and donated laptops to the ICT Department of Ladoke Akintola University of Technology, Ogbomoso.
Dare had also facilitated the distribution of COVID-19 relief packages to indigenes of Ogbomoso.
