Mo Salah’s honest reaction following Liverpool victory over Tottenham

Liverpool on Sunday defeated Tottenham away from home to move into eight position on the EPL table.

Jurgen Klopp and his side were able to bounce back from their incredible defeats to Nottingham Forest and Leeds United.

The result at north London saw the Anfield side pick up their first away win in the top-flight since May, ending a run of five without a victory on the road.

National Daily can confirm that, Salah who seemed not to be carried away following the result, admitted that his side were ‘lucky’ to come away with three points.

The 30-year-old Egypt international told Sky Sports: ‘I think we were lucky in the first half, we played quite good and managed to score two goals.

‘We did well to get the three points. It is always a tough opponent. I’m focused on making a difference and managed to do so today.

‘We managed to strike back a few times in the season, have played some good games.’

Similarly, the former captain of the successful Liverpool team of the early 1980s, Graeme Souness was quick to admit that Liverpool were forced to ‘weather the storm’ while former Liverpool and Tottenham midfielder Jamie Redknapp feels that the Reds are still ‘fragile’ despite the victory.

‘The result was paramount for Liverpool,’ Souness told Sky Sports. ‘They were fantastic in the first half, more like the Liverpool we know.

‘Salah’s two finishes were brilliant. But they had to hold on in the second half when Spurs got after them, but they weathered the storm.’

Redknapp added: ‘Liverpool were certainly fragile in the second half. After being 2-0 up at half-time, a draw would have been so damaging for the confidence, which is why their first away win of the season was so important.

‘You could see a team that is not full confidence right now, there were mistakes, they were sitting back.

‘If Son [Heung-Min], Richarlison had been playing things might have been completely different, the fact Spurs didn’t have enough ammunition in the end is what probably stopped them getting a result.

‘When [Dejan] Kulusevski came on it was real panic stations at the end and nervousness about Liverpool.

‘They are nowhere near where they could be but, if they can make it back-to-back wins against a Southampton side who are in disarray, they can go into the World Cup in a much better position.’

Meanwhile, Liverpool will hope to build on their latest victory when they host Derby County in the Carabao Cup on Thursday.
