Native doctor faces life sentence for raping, defrauding woman in Lagos

Lucky Okon, a native doctor, on Thursday was docked at the Ikeja Magistrate Court for allegedly defrauding a woman of N800,000, and for raping her for several days.
The 30-year-old man who resides at Ajasa Command Road, Ipaja, Lagos, pleaded not guilty to the two-count charges.
Magistrate J.A Adigun, however, granted bail to the accused with the sum of N100,000 with two sureties in like sum.
Testifying, the prosecutor, Sgt. Godwin Awazie, said the accused committed the offences on March 14 on Abesan Housing Estate, Ipaja.
Awazie said that the accused raped the 25-year-old woman and defrauded her of N800,000 noting that the accused accosted the complainant on her way from work.
He further explained that the accused “hypnotised her with a substance suspected to be charm, and asked her to give him her N800,000, which she did,” he said.
In addition, National Daily further gathered that the accused after collecting the money, took the complainant home and raped her for several days.
“It was when the complainant regained her senses that she reported the case to the police, and the accused was arrested,” he said
Explaining the degree of the offence, the prosecutor added that the offences contravened Sections 260 and 314 of the Criminal Law of Lagos State, 2015 (revised).
It was learnt that due to the seriousness of the offence, the accused might face life sentence if found guilty of rape, according to the provisions of Section 260.
The case has been adjourned until June 29 for mention.
