NDLEA arraigns man illegal transportation of 111.5kg Marijuana.
The National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) on Thursday, arraigned a 41-year-old man, Anthony Duru, in Lagos, for alleged drug peddling.
The defendant appeared on a count charge of illegal transportation of 111.5kg of hemp before a Federal High Court.
He, however, pleaded not guilty to the charge before Justice Tijani Ringim.
After his plea, the prosecutor, Mr Jeremiah Aernan, asked the court for a trial date.
Defence counsel, Mr P.E Anyanwu, informed the court of a pending bail application on behalf of the defendant.
Prosecution counsel informed the court that he was just served the process.
Consequently, the court adjourned the case until Feb. 24 for hearing.
The NDLEA alleged that the defendant committed the offence on Oct. 13, 2021.
He said that the defendant was arrested on a tipoff at the Shagamu-Ijebu-Ode Expressway in Ogun State.
According to the agency, cannabis weighing 111.5kg was recovered from the defendant following a search.
He said that hemp, cocaine, heroin and other hard drugs were listed in the NDLEA Schedule as banned.
The alleged offence contravenes the provisions of Section 20 (1) (a) of the NDLEA Act, Cap N30, Laws of the Federation, 2004.
