NDLEA nabs Thailand returnee with illicit drugs valued at N3.1b

The operatives of the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA), have successfully arrested a man who had recently returned from Thailand. This individual, identified as Oguejiofor Nnaemeka Simonpeter, was taken into custody at the Murtala Muhammed International Airport, located in Ikeja, Lagos. He was found to be involved in the importation of a significant amount of illegal drugs, specifically 13.30 kilograms of h£roin, which has a staggering estimated value exceeding N3.192 billion.

This crucial information was revealed to the public in an official statement that was signed and released by Femi Babafemi, who serves as the Director of Media and Advocacy for the agency. The announcement regarding this arrest and the details surrounding it were made public on Sunday, October 13, 2024, bringing significant attention to the ongoing efforts of the NDLEA in their battle against drug trafficking and illegal substances.

The individual in question, Oguejiofor Nnaemeka Simonpeter, was apprehended by law enforcement officers on the day of October 7, 2024. He was caught red-handed while attempting to smuggle these illegal drugs out of the airport premises. The authorities were able to uncover the hidden drugs, which he had concealed within six separate backpacks. These backpacks were then tightly packed into two large suitcases, making it a calculated effort to transport the illegal cargo undetected.

Oguejiofor, who is 29 years old, is not only a suspect in this case, but he also holds an academic background in Mechanical Engineering. He graduated from Chukwuemeka Odumegwu Ojukwu University, located in Uli, Anambra State. Prior to his arrest, he had departed from Thailand on October 3, traveling on a Qatar Airways flight. During his journey, he made a stopover in Doha, where he spent two days before continuing on his way to Lagos. Interestingly, his luggage was originally set to be sent to Accra, Ghana, which was noted as his intended destination, adding another layer of complexity to the case.
