NDLEA seizes 43,980 Tramadol capsules hidden in vehicle fuel tanks
Operatives of the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency have arrested a suspected drug trafficker in Taraba State after allegedly discovering 43,980 capsules of tramadol concealed inside specially modified vehicle fuel tanks.
According to the agency, the suspect had reportedly travelled to Onitsha, where he purchased two large vehicle fuel tanks, allegedly not for automotive use but to create hidden compartments for transporting illicit drugs.
The NDLEA said the tramadol capsules were carefully packed inside the tanks, enabling the suspect to evade several security checkpoints during his journey from Anambra State.
The suspect’s operation, however, came to an end in the Wukari area of Taraba State, where NDLEA officers intercepted the vehicle and uncovered the concealed narcotics during a search.

A video released by the anti-narcotics agency captured the moment officers dismantled the modified fuel tanks and recovered the capsules, exposing what investigators described as a sophisticated drug trafficking method.
The agency said the seizure highlights the evolving tactics employed by drug trafficking networks to move illicit substances across the country and underscores the need for sustained intelligence-led enforcement operations.
The suspect remains in NDLEA custody as investigations continue to determine the source of the drugs, their intended destination and whether other individuals were involved in the trafficking operation.
The NDLEA has repeatedly warned that it will continue to intensify surveillance and interdiction efforts nationwide to disrupt drug trafficking networks and curb the circulation of illicit substances.
