Controversial Nollywood actor, Uche Maduagwu has got many tongues waging on social media following his statement on celebrating divorce.

Maduagwu in an Instagram post on Friday, said divorce celebrations should be normalised because not many dare to walk away from bad marriages.

The actor added that divorce proves one’s bravery and achieving freedom from bad unions is a feat worthy of celebration.

“We need to normalize celebrating divorce and stop making it. Look like a funeral. Divorce is not a sign of failure, it’s a celebration of bravery and freedom,” he began.

“People who don’t celebrate their divorce anniversaries are being ungrateful to God because so many people are still in bad and unhappy.

“Marriages that they are unable to walk out of, so if you are lucky enough to walk out of a Marriage that does not bring out the best in you, please celebrate. It takes a special grace from God to achieve that freedom.”

His post has since begun to garner massive reactions from netizens.

#Damilolaogunsi commented, “When do we realize that except for physical violence and continuous adultery, two humans can put aside their pride and work on their marriages?

“The effect a messy divorce or any divorce has on the psyche of the children is monumental. It’s a bit understandable if one parent is deceased, but a tearing of the fabric of marriage hurts everyone. I think we need to normalize working on things first.”

#Natashablessingrasaq wrote, “Is okay to leave an abusive and unhappy marriage, but there’s no need for celebration.”

#funmilayo also wrote, “Why would we celebrate divorce? Have you forgotten what God said about divorce? Western education just wants to condemn us all and I reject it.”

#Iam_bmodel shared his thoughts, “If you people start celebrating it like that, nobody goes remain for marriage oh. If you make it a trend to celebrate it once marriage crashes, that means people won’t even try to make their marriage work. Once they feel small discomfort, they go quiet. Unless it’s an abusive situation or marriage, then flee, run.”

#Fametouch also wrote, “We should normalise and celebrate failing exams too, dropping out of school, failed government policies? Ozwor.”
