Nigeria Immigration set to begin local production of passport – Minister
Spread The News

The Nigerian government Immigration Service has announced intentions to commence local manufacture of international passports in the country.

Minister Olubunmi Tunji-Ojo, the Minister of Interior, announced this on his official X.

Minister Tunni-Ojo stated that he met with a local technology business, which proposed a concept to localize international passport manufacture.

“Today, I had a meeting with an indigenous technology company presenting a proposal on localizing our international passport production,” he wrote.

Nigeria’s manufacturing of foreign passports in other nations looks to be delaying the document acquisition procedure.

On March 8, 2024, the Nigeria Immigration Service (NIS) launched its completely automated passport application system.

This would allow applicants, particularly Nigerians in the diaspora, to register for new passports and renew old ones more easily.

The minister stated that the goal is to revolutionize the visa application process, particularly for short-term visitors, so that Nigeria can simplify procedures, decrease stress, and improve accessibility through automation.
