Obi shows solidarity to flood victims, urges Tinubu, Atiku, Kwankwaso, others to put campaigns on hold
The 2023 presidential candidate of the Labour Party, Peter Obi, in Abuja, expressed solidarity over the flooding tragedy that has displaced citizens in several communities across the country. Moved by the urgent need for interventions and assistance for flood victims, obi urged the presidential candidates of other parties, who include Atiku Abubakar of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Asiwaju Bola Tinubu of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Rabi’u Musa Kwankwaso of the New Nigeria Peoples party (NNPP), and others, to put campaigns for the 2023 presidential election on hold and join him to provide assistance to victims of flood across the country.
Obi visited Governor Samuel Ortom of Benue State at his Abuja private residence for consultations on his planned visit to flood sites in Benue and other states. The LP presidential candidate emphasized that he expects other presidential candidates to be involved in showing solidarity and support for victims of flooding in the various states of the federation.
The National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA) had reported that flooding had affected about 2.5 million persons, resulted in 603 deaths, over flowed farmlands across the country.
Several homes and farmlands have been over flowed by flood in Lagos, Yobe, Borno, Taraba, Adamawa, Edo, Delta, Kogi, Niger, Plateau, Benue, Ebonyi, Bayelsa, Anambra, Bauchi, Gombe, Kano, Jigawa, Zamfara, Kebbi, Sokoto, Imo, Abia States, and the Federal Capital Territory.
