Offa robbery: saraki meets with Police Investigators in his office

After the revelation that Ministry of Justice had in a letter dated June 22, 2018, exonerated the Senate President, Dr. Abubkar Bukola Saraki, the Senate President on Thursday afternoon, July 26, 2018, hosted a team of investigators in his office at the National Assembly investigating his direct link to a gang of armed robbery suspects that struck at multiple banks and a police station in Offa, Kwara State in April this year.

Saraki confirmed the meeting through the Special Assistant on New Media, Olu Onemola, in multiple tweets in which he reaffirmed his earlier position that he has no direct relations with the suspects.

“Further to the invitation to the Senate President, Dr. Abubakar Bukola Saraki, by the Police on July 23, 2018, and his written response to them on July 24, 2018 on why he could not see them that day — today at about 1:40pm, the Senate President met with a team of investigators on the Offa Robbery case in his office.

“Dr. Saraki used the opportunity to reiterate the fact that he has nothing to do with either the robbery incident on April 5, 2018, or any other criminal activity,” Onemola declared.

The Police had on Monday sent a letter to Saraki inviting him to report to the Police station at 8.00am on Tuesday when the Senate was expected to be having plenary in the National Assembly. Early Tuesday morning, retinue of Police personnel mounted surveillance at Saraki’s residence in Abuja, including the Deputy Senate President, Ike Ekweremadu, restraining their movement. Saraki, however, found his way out to attend Senate sitting which commenced at about 10,00am, two hours behind official resumption time.  The Inspector General of Police, Ibrahim Idris, had on Wednesday, denied deploying Police personnel to the residence of Saraki and Ekweremdu,  promising to investigation the action.

 Saraki had earlier declared that his link to the suspects was mere politics.

Meanwhile, the Justice Ministry exoneration of the Senate President and Governor Abdulfattah of Kwara State from the Offa robbery nails the Police.
