Ogun Police Investigate Tragic Hunting Accident That Claimed Hunter’s Life
The Ogun State Police Command has launched an investigation into the fatal shooting of a hunter, Taiwo Bolugbe, during a group hunting expedition in Ajinawo, Yewa North Local Government Area, Ogun State.
According to police reports, the tragic incident occurred at about 3:00 PM on March 23, 2025, near Dangote Cement Company, Ibese, when a misfired gunshot claimed the hunter’s life.
A group of five hunters had set out for a routine hunting trip in the area. The victim, Taiwo Bolugbe, reportedly attempted to retrieve a hunted animal when his Dane gun accidentally discharged.

Eyewitnesses stated that the firearm slipped from his shoulder, causing an unintentional discharge that fatally struck him in the neck and lower jaw. Despite the desperate efforts of fellow hunters to save him, he succumbed to his injuries at the scene.
At approximately 4:30 PM, the Ogun State Police Command received a report about the tragic event, prompting officers to take swift action. Five hunters were arrested in connection with the incident and are currently assisting law enforcement with their inquiries.
The case has now been transferred to the State Criminal Investigation Department (SCID) for a thorough investigation.
The Ogun State Police Command has urged the public, particularly hunters and firearm users, to exercise extreme caution when handling weapons, even during hunting expeditions, to prevent similar tragic incidents.
