Ogun Police arrest Ride-Share driver for alleged abduction of female passenger
The Ogun State Police Command has arrested a 30-year-old ride-share driver, Olayemi Yusuf, for the abduction of a female passenger, Coutroupis Peace (22), in Ota, Ogun State.
The suspect, who was assaulted by an angry mob before law enforcement intervened, is now in police custody as investigations continue.
According to a statement released by the Ogun State Police Command, officers at the Onipanu Divisional Headquarters responded swiftly to a distress call on March 24, 2025, at about 3:00 PM. A report was received regarding a suspicious vehicle spotted along Ilogbo Road, Ojuore, Ogun State, prompting immediate police intervention.
Upon arrival, officers successfully rescued the victim, identified as Coutroupis Peace, a resident of Cement Bus Stop, Lagos, and apprehended the suspect.
Preliminary investigations revealed that the victim had booked a ride via an online car service from Lekki, Lagos, to Off Freedom Way, Lekki. However, during the journey, the driver claimed his navigation system malfunctioned, causing him to divert from the intended route.

The suspect allegedly overpowered the victim and restrained her hands using two plastic tyre clips, rendering her unable to escape.
Upon reaching Omowo Filling Station along Ilogbo Road, Ota, the victim managed to raise an alarm, which alerted passersby. Concerned citizens intervened, attacking the suspect before the police arrived at the scene.
Following the rescue, both the victim and the suspect were taken to the Onipanu Divisional Headquarters, where the suspect received medical treatment for injuries sustained from the mob attack.
The Commissioner of Police, CP Lanre Ogunlowo, PhD, has urged the public to refrain from taking the law into their own hands. Instead, he emphasized the importance of reporting suspicious activities to the police to allow for proper investigation and legal action.
The Ogun State Police Command has assured the public that the case is being thoroughly investigated and that justice will be served.
Citizens are encouraged to remain vigilant, verify the credentials of ride-share drivers, and promptly report any suspicious behavior or criminal activity to the authorities.
