Opay faces backlash as glitches leave customers stranded again

Popular financial technology company, Opay, is under fire once more as millions of its users were left frustrated and stranded due to an unexplained application glitch.

This incident, which occurred on Monday, marks the second time in just over a month that customers have experienced severe disruptions, leading to significant concerns about the platform’s reliability.

Several Opay customers reported being unable to complete transactions, with many expressing their anger and disappointment over the company’s failure to provide any explanation or solution.

The fintech giant, known for its promise of quick and easy payments, failed to live up to its reputation as users found themselves unable to send or receive money, forcing them to turn to alternative platforms like Moniepoint and Palmpay.

One frustrated customer shared their experience of embarrassment when attempting to make a purchase at a local mart. “I went to Bokku Mart to buy some goods, and since I don’t have an ATM, I always use Opay because it’s been easy in the past. But yesterday, the payment failed. I couldn’t even see my transaction history, but my account was debited. It was like the money just disappeared,” the customer lamented.

Another user recounted how the glitch nearly left his baby without food. “I was on my way home from work and decided to buy some food for my baby. I picked what I needed at the supermarket, but when I tried to pay, my transactions were pending for hours. I thought it was a network issue, so I switched data lines, but it didn’t help. I had to rush home to get my ATM so my baby wouldn’t go hungry,” he explained.

The issue has sparked widespread outrage, especially as it comes on the heels of a similar incident last month, where customers reported that their funds had mysteriously vanished from their accounts.

“I made a transfer to an account, and the money was debited twice but never credited to the recipient. Worse, I can’t even find the transaction in my Opay history. What’s going on?” one user questioned in frustration.

Another expressed their growing dissatisfaction: “I’m tired of Opay. I made a transaction, and there was a network error. Before I knew it, my money was debited, but I got no receipt. I’m really getting tired of this; it’s like they’re making it hard for people just trying to survive. I might switch to Palmpay soon.”

The situation has been exacerbated by Opay’s silence, as the company has yet to issue a statement explaining the cause of the glitch or offering any reassurance to its affected customers.

The lack of communication has only fueled customer anger, with many demanding immediate answers and contemplating moving their business to more reliable platforms.
