PDP launches governorship campaign for Asue Ighodalo, promises brighter future for Edo
The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has officially launched its governorship campaign for Barr. Asue Ighodalo, signaling a new chapter in Edo’s political landscape.
At a gathering of supporters and citizens, the party emphasized its commitment to a brighter future for the state.
In his address, Chris Osa Nehikhare, Hon. Commissioner for Communication and Orientation, Edo State, highlighted Ighodalo’s vision for Edo, which focuses on prioritizing community needs and transforming challenges into opportunities.
Nehikhare praised Ighodalo as a leader who listens, understands, and is dedicated to the state’s growth and prosperity.
Edo, described as a land of promise with significant talent and potential, has seen notable progress under the current administration. The PDP has made strides in several sectors:
Education: The EdoBest program, launched in 2017, has revitalized the basic education sector, improving teaching and learning in primary and junior secondary schools. This model has gained recognition from other states and nations.
Health: A robust network of primary health care facilities now serves as the first point of contact for most residents. The government has also rebuilt and equipped the Stella Obasanjo Hospital and upgraded the General Hospital in Auchi to a teaching hospital.

Infrastructure: Significant improvements include the construction of over 900 kilometers of roads, and the development of key projects such as the John Odigie Oyegun Public Service Academy, Edo Innovation Hub, and several other centers. Additionally, over 3,000 kilometers of fiber optics have been laid, connecting all local government areas and providing free WiFi in various city areas.
Nehikhare urged supporters to unite and advocate for Ighodalo, emphasizing the importance of their vote. He also warned of opposition efforts to undermine quality leadership, pointing out the challenges posed by candidates from the APC and LP.
To the youth of Edo, Nehikhare stressed their crucial role in the campaign, encouraging them to actively participate and advocate for a future that aligns with their aspirations.
As the campaign progresses, Nehikhare called on all Edo citizens to support Ighodalo and the PDP’s vision for a state characterized by transparency, accountability, and the well-being of all its people.
“Let’s move forward together, not just to win this election, but to create an Edo we can all be proud of,” Nehikhare concluded.
