Pharmacist arraigned for conducting abortion on 15-year-old
A pharmacist, Amos Nzioki, on Tuesday, was arraigned before Chief Magistrate Martha Mutuku of Mombasa Magistrate Court for conducting an abortion on a 15-year-old girl.
Nzioki was charged for allegedly conducting an induced abortion on the girl conceived through defilement by a yet-to-be-identified man who is now at large, K24tv reported on Tuesday.
The office of the Director of Public Prosecution revealed that the doctor committed the offence on June 3, 2023, at his private chemist in Tudor.
Nzioki was arrested after the victim’s guardian reported the incident to the police.
The police took the girl to Coast General Hospital for a test and was confirmed by doctors that an abortion was carried out on the victim.
Police are yet to arrest and are currently in search of the man accused of defiling and impregnating the minor.
Nzioki pleaded not guilty to the charges and was later released on Ksh 300,000 bond with one surety of a similar amount and an alternative cash bail of Ksh 200,000.
