Police arrest suspected ATM fraudster in Akwa Ibom
The Akwa Ibom State Police Command on Monday revealed the arrest of a man over suspicion of serial involvement in Automated Teller Machine (ATM) card fraud.
The Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO) in Akwa Ibom, DSP Timfon John, in a statement on Monday in Uyo, indicated that the suspect specialized in swapping of ATM cards to make fraudulent withdrawals.
John said the suspect was apprehended after the police received distress calls from two Uyo-based banks concerning his activities.
“The suspect’s image was captured by the banks’ CCTV cameras, this led to his swift identification and arrest at a bank premises in Abak Road, Uyo, on Saturday,” she said.
The PPRO said that seven ATM cards from different banks were recovered from the suspect during investigation.
“The suspect has also admitted that he operates alone, and that he operates mainly in Cross River and Akwa Ibom.
“The police command has received a formal statement from one of his victims, the victim also identified him,” she said.
She further said that the suspect would be charged to court as soon as investigations are concluded. (NAN)
