The Ogun State Police Command has arrested a man, identified as Akinola Damilare, for allegedly impersonating a military officer and parading himself as a general popularly known as “General Don” in Abeokuta.

The suspect was arrested by operatives of the Command’s Special Weapons and Tactics (SWAT) Unit at about 2:00 a.m. on November 3, 2026, at Kajola, Elega, Abeokuta, following intelligence provided by a community leader.

According to the police, the arrest followed discreet surveillance by SWAT operatives after the information was received.

Items reportedly recovered from the suspect include a military face cap, three-quarter military trousers and four photographs showing him dressed in military uniform.

The police said the recovered items would form part of the ongoing investigation into the suspect’s alleged activities.

The Commissioner of Police, Bode Ojajuni, reaffirmed the command’s commitment to combating impersonation and other criminal activities across the state.

He also urged residents to remain vigilant and promptly report suspicious behaviour or activities to the police.
