Police begin probe into death of 70-year-old beggar
The Niger State Police Command is currently investigating the circumstances surrounding the death of an elderly man discovered by the roadside.
Identified only as Buba, the man, believed to be a beggar, was found lifeless near the BCGA Bridge along the Kontagora-Zuru Road in Kontagora Local Government Area.
Local sources suggest that the 70-year-old, who was originally from Bangi in Magama LGA, had been seen begging at various junctions in the area. Some speculate that his death may have been caused by hunger.
Confirming the incident on Thursday, the Niger State Police Public Relations Officer, Wasiu Abiodun, stated that Buba was found unconscious when officers arrived at the scene.
The investigation is ongoing to determine the exact cause of death.
