Police begin probe, order drug test for officer who threatened people filming him (Video)
The Anambra State Police Command has initiated disciplinary proceedings alongside a mandatory drug test for an officer who was captured in a viral video threatening to shoot anyone who filmed him while performing his duties.
The development follows public outrage after the footage surfaced online, showing the officer issuing the threat during an encounter that quickly drew condemnation from citizens and rights advocates.
In a statement confirming the action, the Command said the measures are part of internal disciplinary procedures designed to ensure accountability and maintain professional standards within the force. Officials noted that the officer’s conduct is now under formal review.

The Command further explained that the drug test forms part of routine but enhanced checks being applied in cases involving alleged misconduct, especially where behaviour is considered erratic or potentially dangerous.
The Anambra State Police Command assured the public that appropriate action would be taken based on the outcome of the investigation, stressing its commitment to upholding discipline within its ranks.
The case has also drawn wider attention to the conduct of officers in public-facing duties, with many Nigerians calling for stricter enforcement of professional standards within the Nigeria Police Force.
Further details are expected as the internal investigation continues.
