Presidency 2023: Fashola awaiting Buhari’s endorsement to join race
There are emerging indications that the Minister of Works and Housing, Babatunde Fashola, is prepared to join the 2023 presidential race on the platform of the All Progressives Congress (APC). The former Lagos State governor, however, according to a party source, is waiting for President Muhammadu Buhari to give him the go-ahead to contest for the APC presidential ticket in 2023.
The source from the APC secretariat noted that Fashola is highly considered the potential presidential candidate of the ruling party if the negotiation with former President Goodluck Jonathan fails. The party source said that if the Jonathan plan fails, the ruling APC could settle for Fashola.
The APC leaders, according to the party source, are not convinced of the confidence of the Vice President, Professor Yemi Osinbajo.
However, there has been massive mobilization for the APC national leader, Asiwaju Bola Tinubu, for the 2023 presidential race which the APC has zoned to the south.
While no one has made formal declaration for the 2023 presidential race on the platform of the APC, several mobilization groups have been on duty for certain party leaders for the 2023 presidential ticket of the ruling party.
However, Governor Dave Umahi of Ebonyi State has been agitating for zoning of the 2023 presidential ticket to the southeast. This was given as one of the reasons the governor defected from the PDP to the APC.
Meanwhile, deeper negotiations were revealed to be going on within the party structures.
