Prof. Ikonne demise: PDP notifies INEC on fresh governorship primary election in Abia
The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) on Friday notified the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) on the party’s plans to conduct fresh governorship primary election in Abia State after the death of Prof. Uchenna Eleazar Ikonne, PDP governorship candidate on Wednesday.
The PDP National Publicity Secretary, Debo Ologunagba, in a statement in Abuja on Friday, emphasised that the decision for the fresh primary election by the National Working Committee (NWC) is pursuant to the provisions of Section 33 of the Electoral Act 2022.
The PDP timetable and schedule of activities released on Friday include giving notice to the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) on Friday, Jan. 27; sales of nomination forms from January 27 to 31, last day for the submission of already purchased forms on February 1.
The timetable indicated that aspirants will be screened on February 2 and Screening Appeal on February 3.
The statement indicated that fresh aspirants are permitted to participate in the current exercise iwth those who contested in the earlier primary.
According to the statement, “The State Congress (Gubernatorial Candidate Nomination) is also scheduled for February 4.”
The PDP appealed to all party leaders, critical stakeholders, member and supporters in Abia State to be guided by the statement, accordingly.
