Reactions as CBN Gov. insist 90 days is enough to deposit old Naira notes
While speaking to the public during a press briefing, the Governor of the Central Bank of Nigeria, Godwin Emefiele, said 90 days is enough to deposit the old currency to the banks. Recall that the apex bank said the old series of 200, 500 and 1000 naira notes will no longer be useful after 31st January and that people should deposit them to banks before then.
“I must say that unfortunately, I don’t have good news for those who feel we should shift the deadline, my apologies. The reason is that 90 days is enough for those who have the old currency to deposit it to the banks”, he said.

Godwin Emefiele’s statement stirred mixed reactions from social media users. Adio Akeem said banks are still dispensing the old notes. Adebayo Kemi agreed with him that 90 days is enough. She also aimed a dig at vote buyers, saying that they won’t succeed this time. Solomon Rotimi also agreed with Emefiele. Check out the screenshots below for the details.
