Reactions trail Police PRO’s statement on the alleged attack on Lagos PDP governorship candidate, Jandor
Reactions have begun trailing the recent statement made by the Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO) Lagos Command, SP Benjamin Hundeyin regarding the reported attack carried out against Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) governorship candidate, Dr. Abdul-Azeez Olajide Adediran, popularly known as Jandor in the state.
Recall that on Monday, October 24, 2022, reports from several media outlets indicating that an attack was launcherd by hoodlums against the convoy of Jandor and his running mate, Funke Akindele while on their way back from a meeting with party stakeholders in the Ikoga axis in the Badagry Local Government Area of the state ahead of the 2023 gubernatorial elections. Though the candidates escaped unhurt, some members of the campaign team, including journalists, were said to have sustained varying degrees of injuries.
As expected, news of the attack drew public outrage as some Nigerians asked why there were no police escorts available to protect the governorship candidate and his team.
However, in a series of tweets on his verified Twitter handle a few hours ago, SP Hundeyin explained that though adequate security had been provided by the Divisional Police Officer (DPO) in Badagry for Jandor and his team, the PDP candidate chose to make an unscheduled visit to an undisclosed location on their way back from the meeting. He then confirmed that investigations have commenced on the alleged attack, adding that the Force is expecting a written complaint/report from the victims as well.
Concluding his tweet, SP Hundeying vowed that the police will leave no stone unturned in ensuring that the assailants are brought to book.
Quite interestingly, the Police Spokesman’s post drew a flurry of reactions from many Nigerians online.
While some persons urged the police to ensure justice is served, others, however, wondered why the Force is yet to provide personal security details to a governorship candidate and his running mate in the state.
