Security operatives rescue kidnapped woman in Edo, arrest five suspects

 

 

A combined team of security operatives has successfully rescued a kidnapped woman, identified as Jemila Ibrahim, and arrested five suspects in connection with the abduction during a coordinated bush-combing operation in Edo State.

The operation, which led to the victim’s rescue, was carried out around the Okpege River Road area of Iyuku community in Jattu, Etsako West Local Government Area. The victim was reportedly abducted on May 10, 2026, and regained freedom on May 13, 2026, following sustained search efforts by the security team.

The Public Relations Officer of the Edo State Police Command, ASP Eno Ikoedem, confirmed the development in a statement made available to journalists on May 18, 2026, in Benin City.

According to her, five suspects were arrested in connection with the crime. They include Nura Saminu (24), Shaibu Isah (23), Suraj Sabitu (23), Yajubu Sagiru (23), and Oseni Abdullahi (26).

She further disclosed that the rescued victim has been taken to a medical facility for treatment and proper care following her ordeal in captivity.

ASP Ikoedem added that the suspects remain in custody and will be arraigned in court upon the conclusion of ongoing investigations.

Meanwhile, the Commissioner of Police in the state, Monday Agbonika, commended the operatives involved in the successful rescue operation, describing it as a demonstration of professionalism and commitment.

He also reassured residents of the command’s determination to intensify the fight against kidnapping and other violent crimes across Edo State, urging continued cooperation from the public to enhance security efforts.
