Senators muscle down colleague trying to defect

PDP’s senators on Wednesday cordoned off a colleague after announcing his defection to the ruling APC, and making move to leave his seat.
Senator representing Ebonyi South, Sonni Ogbuoji, under Order 43, declared his intention to dirch the PDP because of the “crisis” within the party as his reason for defection.
Other PDP senators, however,  interrupted him, turning the chamber into a bedlam for minutes as they built a human wall in front of Ogbuoji.

declarations this morning,” he said. “When I started, my colleagues from my party PDP feel that I needed to consult with them because of the love they’ve shown me, I want to step down my…”
His voice was again drowned by cheers by the PDP lawmakers.
But Senate President Bukola Saraki insisted no going back on that order.
“In line with our rules which say there cannot be any further debates on this, his point of order is noted. Senator Sonni Ogbuoji, I will keep the whole day free for you for anytime you want to come back on order 43 today before the close of the session,” he said.
