Sokoto State Government, on Monday said it plans to generate N33 billion from internal revenue sources in 2016, up from the N25 billion target it set in the 2015fiscal year.
The Commissioner of Finance, Alhaji Sa’idu Umar, told newsmen in Sokoto that the government had already adopted measures to realise its target.
He said part of the strategy is the adoption of a single account for all government revenues and computerisation of the state revenue board.
“As you are aware, the state government had since discovered over N1.5 billion in no fewer than 100 idle accounts in several commercial banks.
“All revenues accruing to the state government are now being channelled into the Consolidated Revenue Account (CRA), and this affects all revenue-yielding agencies.
“All the revenues including those from the various state-owned tertiary educational institutions now go only to the CRA,” the commissioner added.
Umar disclosed that henceforth any agency of government that require funds for any project would have to apply for approval and release of the money.
The commissioner said that the government had commenced the electronic upgrade of operations of the state internal revenue board, to enhance efficiency and block leakages.
He pledged that the 2016 budget of N174 billion would be “religiously implemented to uplift the living standard of people in the state.”
