Sustained military pounding, surrender leave ISWAP in disarray; ISIS steps In
The Islamic State’s West Africa Province (ISWAP) has ordered its Nigerian franchise to reshuffle its leadership.
The decision followed the series of surrender by Boko Haram and ISWAP fighters and their families to the Nigerian military.
A number of terrorists in Kirta, Wulgo, Sabon Tumbu, Jubularam, Kwalaram, Sigir, Kayowa, Kurnawa and others have surrendered or fled from Lake Chad.
According to PRNigeria, ISIS observed the failure to sustain the reunification of ISWAP and Boko Haram after the death of Abubakar Shekau.
Aba-Ibrahim now heads ISWAP, replacing Abba-Gana.
Malam Bako, Abdul-Kaka a.k.a. Sa’ad, Abu Ayun and Abba Kaka were appointed as new members of the Shura Council.
Muhammed Mustapha, recently named as the Amir of Marte, Muhammed Malumma, Muhammed Maina and Abubakar Dan-Buduma retain their positions as commanders.
“The surrender of fighters is largely due to loss of confidence, maltreatment, and growing insurrection between ISWAP and Jamā’at Ahl as-Sunnah lid-Da’wah wa’l-Jihād (JAS) after the death of Abubakar Shekau”, a source told PRNigeria.
“Many JAS fighters have been arrested and incarcerated in an ISWAP prison at Tumbum Kayowa for committing various crimes. Former commanders and Amirs were demoted.
“Some JAS commanders and fighters prefer renouncing their participation in terrorism and surrender to remaining with ISWAP where they have been going through humiliation.”
