Tension in Presidency as bandits move close to FCT, Buhari summons service, security chiefs
There appears to be mounting pressure on the Nigerian presidency over increasing security threats and the frequency operations and attack on national assets by bandits, who operations are also encroaching the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Abuja. The bandits have since last carried out three successful attacks at the country’s national property in Kaduna, Kaduna State. They struck at the Kaduna International Airport, later on Monday hit the railway line, obstructing, and attacking a Kaduna bound train from Abuja, and repeated same attack on the railway facilities on Tuesday, killing, injuring and kidnapping passengers on board in all instances of attacking the passengers train on the Abuja-Kaduna corridor.
President Muhammadu Buhari, therefore, convened an emergency meeting with security chiefs few hours after bandits on Monday night attacked an Abuja-Kaduna bound train. Details of the meeting which held behind closed doors were not disclosed. However, the President was perturbed about the increasing acts of terrorism encroaching on the FCT, and also resulting ion the destruction of national assets.
About 362 passengers were confirmed to be on board the train from Abuja to Kaduna which was attacked at about 7.45 p.m. on Monday.
Attendants at the meeting at State House, Abuja, include included all service chiefs, Inspector-General of Police, Usman Baba, and Director-General of the Department of State Services, Yusuf Bichi.
