Ikeja Electric converts Band B customers to band A after tariff increase
Ikeja Electric has converted some customers previously on Band B in the suburb of the capital city to Band A after the recent increase of electricity tariff.
Some of the customers said that they have been on the lower bands of B ever since the installation of pre-paid metres in their residence. They decried that suddenly, the company after increase of electricity tariff, elevated them to Band A.
Some decried that they were even on Band C but converted to Band A in the new arrangement.
Besides, many are still on estimated billing.
Some of the customers reside around Obawole, Omo Onile, Ogba, Ishaga axis, among others.
Meanwhile Senator Ali Ndume had argued in the National Assembly that “This Band A, B, C is discrimination. Somebody just woke up with a crazy idea to increase the electricity tariff”.
Apparently, the affected customers have to pay far more than they were paying in the past with the conversion to Band A.
Our investigation shows the majority of the residents are low income earners, some are artisans, and others traders.
Band A customers were initially identified as elite customers.
