Tinubu delegates ECOWAS leaders to meet with coup leaders in Niger
President Bola Tinubu, Chairman of the ECOWAS Authority of Heads of State and Government, after an emergency meeting at the State House, Abuja, on Wednesday, appointed a delegation of the Economic Community of West African States (ECOWAS), led by President Patrice Talon of Benin Republic, to Niamey, Niger Republic, to deliberate with the coup leaders on the ousting and hostage of President Mohamed Bazoum of Niger Republic.
ECOWAS leaders had vehemently condemned the coup on Wednesday, urging the “plotters” to desist from the illegal usurpation of power and immediately release president Bazoum without condition.
Tinubu, condemning the coup, noted that any attempt to seize power and undermine constitutional authority in Niger Republic is unacceptable.
President Talon had arrived Nigeria at about 4.43 pm to deliberate with Tinubu on the coup situation in Niger.
