Troops have rescued six female students of the Federal University Dutsin-Ma (FUDMA) and their driver after they were abducted by suspected kidnappers in Katsina State.

The seven victims were rescued along the Dayi–Malumfashi Road in Danmusa Local Government Area on Monday evening, September 21, 2026, following an attack on a commercial vehicle travelling from Kaduna towards Katsina.

According to a report, troops of Sector 2, Operation FANSAN YAMMA responded to a distress call about the attack and moved to the area.

The intervention reportedly forced the kidnappers to abandon their captives and flee into the surrounding area. All seven victims were rescued alive and without injuries.

The rescued students were identified as female undergraduates of FUDMA, while the driver was identified as Sani Umar, according to a separate report by Zagazola Makama.

Following the rescue, the victims reportedly underwent preliminary security profiling and medical checks before arrangements were made to reunite them with their families and university authorities.

The rescue operation comes amid continuing security challenges along major roads in Katsina State, where armed groups have carried out attacks and abductions targeting travellers and communities.

The Dayi–Malumfashi corridor is among routes where security agencies have continued patrols and operations to counter kidnapping and other criminal activities.

Authorities have not disclosed whether any of the suspected kidnappers were arrested during the operation.

The successful rescue highlights the role of rapid military intervention following distress calls, while security operations are continuing in the area to locate the fleeing suspects and prevent further attacks.
