World Cup 2026: Yamal relishes Ronaldo showdown as Spain face Portugal
Spain winger Lamine Yamal says it will be an honour to face Cristiano Ronaldo when Spain meet Portugal in the Round of 16 of the 2026 FIFA World Cup.
The 18-year-old made the comments after Spain’s 3-0 victory over Austria on Thursday secured their place in the knockout stage.

With Portugal edging Croatia 2-1 to set up an Iberian showdown, Yamal said he is excited by the prospect of playing against the Portuguese captain but remains focused on helping Spain advance.
“It would be an honour, obviously, to play against Cristiano, but I am focused on winning the game, and I don’t really care who advances between the two of them,” Yamal told DAZN.
Spain and Portugal will clash on Monday for a place in the quarter-finals after Roberto Martínez’s side defeated Croatia to reach the last 16.
