Buhari appoints Babandede as acting immigration boss
Former Deputy Comptroller General (DCG) of the Nigeria Immigration Service (NIS) Mohammed Babandede has emerged as the Acting Comptroller General of Immigration, Daily Post reports. This is following the sack of the former Immigration boss, Martin Abeshi, who was appointed into the position by President Muhammadu Buhari last September. The removal of Abeshi was contained in a letter, which was signed by , Lt-Gen. Abdulrahman Dambazau (rtd) the minister of interior on Tuesday, May 17, entitled: ‘notification of retirement’. The letter directed Abeshi to immediately handover to Babandede.

Meanwhile, some officers of the NIS have exposed the corrupt activities of the former comptroller general of the service, Abeshi in the posting of personnel for foreign trips. In a petition written to President Muhammadu Buhari, two serving immigration officers accused Abeshi of collecting money from officers eager to travel abroad on foreign missions. When on these missions, the officers who have a minimum of four years to spend abroad receive allowances totaling about $20,000 (N3,981,000) monthly.
