About a year away from the much anticipated 2023 Presidential Election, notable politicians within the All Progressives Congress (APC) fold are already in trenches plotting how Nigeria’s Next President ‘ll emerge. It’s no longer news that the tenure of the incumbent President Muhammadu Buhari ‘ll elapse on May 29, 2023. All things being equal, Below are the names of top 3 likely APC vice-presidential candidates.

1. Rt. Hon. Yakubu Dogara

The 53years-old Lawyer cum Politician was an Active Legal Practitioner until 2005 when he was appointed Special Assistant to the Minister of State for Transport. He held this position until 2006, when he decided to contest to represent the Bogoro/Dass/Tafawa-Balewa constituency at the Federal House of Representatives. His bid proved successful and he has been a member of the House since 2007. He decamped to the All Progressives Congress (APC) in 2014 and in June 2015, he was elected as Speaker of the 8th House of Representatives, serving till 2019. In May 2018, he rejoined the PDP and won a re-election during the February 2019 National Assembly Polls. In November 2020, Dogara again defected to the All Progressives Congress (APC).

2. Barr. Boss Mustapha 

Mustapha, 53 is a Lawyer and Politician who currently serves as Secretary to the Government of the Federation (SGF). He is also the Chairman of the Presidential Task Force on Covid-19. Mustapha came into political limelight in 1991 when he contested unsuccessfully to become the Governor of Adamawa State under the SDP platform. In later years, he served as the Deputy National Chairman of the Action Congress of Nigeria (ACN), One of the Four Legacy Parties that merged to form the All Progressives Congress (APC). He was appointed as Secretary to the Government of the Federation (SGF) on the 1st of November, 2017.

3. Rt. Hon. Simon Lalong 

The 57years-old Lalong is a trained Lawyer who was the Vice-Chairman of Nigerian Bar Association, Plateau State Chapter between 1992 and 1994. In 1998, He temporarily dumped his Legal Practice and ventured into Politics. Lalong contested for and won the Shendam State Constituency Seat under the PDP platform in 1999, Between 2001 and 2006, He served as Speaker of the Plateau State House of Assembly. During that period, he was a Two-term Chairman of the Conference of Speakers of the 36 States of Nigeria. During the 2015 General Elections, Lalong was elected as Governor of Plateau State under the APC Flag, he won a re-election in March 2019, defeating his main challenger, Gen. Jeremiah Useni of the People’s Democratic Party (PDP).
