2023: Why Atiku may sidelined Peter Obi this time
Governors elected on the platform of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) have reportedly rejected the plan by Atiku Abubakar to retain Peter Obi as his running mate if he wins the party’s presidential ticket.
An associate of the PDP presidential candidate in the 2019 elections claimed that Atiku would like to retain Obi as his deputy if he emerges the party’s flagbearer for the 2023 polls.
The PDP chieftain added that Obi decided to join the presidential race because the opposition party is planning to throw its presidential ticket open.
However, a former member of the PDP National Working Committee (NWC) said Atiku has faced stiff resistance from the governors of the party over the plan to choose Obi as his running mate.

The PDP chieftain said the governors reportedly kicked against the plan because they want Atiku to pick one of them from the South as his running mate.
He added that is the reason why some of the governors are picking the presidential forms of the PDP which they plan to use as negotiation for the Vice President slot.
The former PDP NWC member, however, said that Atiku may drop Obi and pick one of the governors as his running mate as they are the major powerbrokers in the party.
