At least 47 people were killed on Sunday night during a brutal attack on the Zike community and neighboring Kimakpa in the Kwall District of Bassa Local Government Area, Plateau State.
The assault, which occurred around 8:00 pm, also left many others with varying degrees of injuries, further deepening fears and tensions in the conflict-ridden region.
The incident marks another grim chapter in the ongoing wave of violence plaguing Plateau State. It comes just over a week after a similar attack in Bokkos Local Government Area, where 52 people lost their lives and properties worth millions of naira were destroyed.

Confirming the tragic event in Jos on Monday, the National Secretary of the Irigwe Development Association, Danjuma Dickson Auta, described the situation as “devastating,” stating that the affected communities were left in shock and mourning following the coordinated attack by yet-to-be-identified assailants.
The Plateau State Government, in a statement released on Monday, expressed deep concern over the continued occupation of rural communities by armed groups.
Authorities warned that the presence of these hostile elements is further exacerbating insecurity and intercommunal tensions across the region.
Residents are now calling on security agencies and the federal government to take urgent steps to protect lives and property, and to prevent further bloodshed in the state. Meanwhile, humanitarian agencies have begun mobilizing resources to support displaced and affected families in the area.
As investigations into the incident continue, pressure is mounting on both state and federal authorities to address the root causes of the crisis and restore lasting peace to Plateau State.
