5 Top wrestlers that died in the ring during wrestling matches

Wrestling is one of the most entertaining and celebrated sport. Though it is stated that the sport is scripted, fans still enjoy witnessing their favourite superstar beat down other wrestlers, and win victories for themselves.

Because of the nature of the sport, several wrestlers have suffered injuries, over the years, and a few others lost their lives in the process.

In this article, we will be looking at some wrestlers that died in the ring during wrestling matches.

1. Malcolm Kirk

Malcolm Kirk was a pro wrestler, he was prominent in the 70s and 80s. He was known by the name; King Kong. Kirk weighed about 350 pounds, he wrestled and defeated several wrestlers.

In 1987, King Kong was in a championship match against Big Daddy (another gigantic wrestler). After his opponent hit his finishing move, “the big splash”, Kirk remained lifeless on the mat. He was later rushed to the hospital but never survived it. It was discovered that he died as the result of a minor heart attack.

2. Pro

Jesus Javier was a second-generation Lucha Libre star. He was known by the name; Oro. It was reported that Oro only wrestled for about 3 years (1990-1993).

In October 1993, he was in a tag team match, His opponent hit him with a bump to the head (as planned). This skill was to make fans believe that Oro has shattered his neck. But unfortunately, he collapsed after the impact and died on his way to the hospital.

3. Plum Mariko

Plum Mariko was a female Japanese wrestler, during her wrestling career, she suffered multiple head injuries.

In August 1997, during a tag team match, Plum started suffering concussions, as a result of her multi-head Injuries. Her opponent, hit her with a liger bomb to pin a win, but she remained on the mat even after the match. She was confirmed dead later on and was recorded to be the first pro wrestler in Japan to die as a result of injuries.

4. Gary Albright

Albright Gary was known to be one of the best during his time, because of the level of training he received from wrestling masters.

In January 2000, Albright was in a match at the WXV show. Lucifer Grim; his opponent hit him with an Ace cutter, immediately, Albert collapsed. Grim realized that Albert was out, he rolled him up for a pinfall to bring the match to an end.

Medics and other wrestlers ran to the ring, to revive Albert, but all efforts proved abortive, he was already gone. Later on, it was stated that he died as a result of a severe heart attack.

5. Perro Aguayo JR.

Perro Aguayo JR’s death was one of the most horrible deaths in wrestling history. He was a prominent Lucha Libre Wrestler, and he was known to be one of the most skillful.

In March 2015, Perro was in a tag team match. His opponent; Ray Mysterio hit him with a dropkick, sending him neck-first to the ropes. This move made Perro’s body limp, and struggles to bring him back proved abortive, he was later confirmed dead at a hospital.
