61-yr-old reckless driver knocks pedestrian dead at Oshodi
A 61-year-old man, was on Wednesday docked in an Ikeja Chief Magistrates’ Court for allegedly knocking down a pedestrian and causing his death.
The defendant, Shaibu Bakare, a driver, who resides at 7, Ogukoya St., Iwaya Yaba , Lagos is charged with reckless driving, causing the death of a pedestrian and driving without a driving licence.
The Prosecution Counsel, ASP Raji Akeem told the court that the offence was committed on Sept. 18 at Oshodi ,Lagos.
Akeem said that the driver drove in a dangerous and reckless manners and knocked down a pedestrian, Mr Kenneth Innocent.
The prosecutor said that the victim died on the spot as a result of the various degrees of injuries sustained on his head and other parts.
The offence, he said, contravenes the provisions sections 1 ,51 and 52 of the Transport Sector Reform Laws, 2018.
The defendant, however, pleaded not guilty to the charge.
The Chief Magistrate, Mrs. B. O Osunsanmi, granted the defendant bail in the sum of N2million with two sureties in likesum.
Osunsanmi adjourned the case until Nov. 7 for mention.
