IBARAPA: Killer of late Aborode arrested, remanded; suspect not Fulani
The suspected killer of a former lawmaker and farmer Fatai Aborode, allegedly murdered by Fulani herdsmen, under Seriki Abdulkadir Salihu, at Igangan, Ibarapa North, Oyo, has been arrested and remanded .
The suspect, identified as Olawuwo, is an octogenarian and chieftain of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) at Igangan, according to the Oyo command PRO Fadeyi Olugbenga.
He was arrested on Thursday and taken to the State Criminal Investigation Department (SCID) of the state police command.
Aborode’s murder generated a lot ripples when it happened last December.
Despite the late politician’s father hinting at assassination, the youth and many farmers in Ibarapaland insisted criminal Fulani herders backed by Salihu killed him.
The murder and many oter incident formed part of the reason Sunday Adeyemo, a fast rising ethnic jingoist, ordered Salihu to leave Igangan. The Fulani leader’s fled when the youth attacked his clan Jan 26,
When he visited Igangan in Feb, Oyo Gov. Seyi Makinde directed the police to fish out the killers.
