Woman jailed 9 years for kidnapping 3-year-old girl.
A Kano High Court sitting on Thursday, sentenced a 27-year-old woman, Sadiya Ahmadu, to nine years imprisonment for kidnapping a three-year-old girl.
Ahmadu, who lives at Gayawa Quarters Kano, pleaded guilty to the one-count of kidnapping.
The Presiding Judge, Justice Maryam Ahmad-Sabo, held that the prosecution had proven its case beyond reasonable doubt.
Ahmad-Sabo sentenced the convict with hard labour.
She also ordered the convict to pay a fine of N200,000 or serve one year in correctional centre.
Earlier, the Prosecution Counsel, Mrs Zahra’u Alhassan told the court that the convict committed the offence on March 22, 2018 in Gayawa Quarters Kano.
The convict, she said, kidnapped the girl from Gayawa Quarters Kano where she was playing with her friends.
The prosecutor also told the court that the convict demanded N1 million in ransom from the girl’s father.
She said that the offence contravened section 273 of the Penal Code(as amended).
The prosecution presented two witnesses to prove their case.
The Defence Counsel, Mr S. Y. Gama, pleaded with the court for mercy.
