Bandits invade police station in Kogi, kill one personnel
Bandits invaded a police station in Eika-Ohizenyi, Okehi Local Government Area, Kogi State, in the early hours of Friday, killing one officer, deified as Jibril, known as Yellow.
The Police Public Relations Officer of the Kogi State Command, William Aya, in a statement on Friday in Lokoja indicated that the bandits triggered inferno in certain part of the Divisional Area Command Office by detonating dynamite, adding that the deceased, Jibril, an Inspector, was killed during exchange of gunfire.
The PPRO disclosed that the Commissioner of Police in Kogi State, Edward Egbuka, visiting the police station for on-the-spot assessment, immediately directed reinforcement and deployment of additional operational assets consisting of operatives of the Police Mobile Force, Counter Terrorism Unit, Quick Response Unit, State Intelligence Bureau in synergy with other security agencies to division.
The bandits were said to have stormed the Divisional office at about 12.15a.m, detonated the first bomb at the station.
The second bomb was said to have destroyed part of a building at the station. The bandits were also said to have operated for about two hours.
The Commissioner of Police has assured the people that the Command in collaboration with other security agencies and patriotic stakeholders is committed to guaranteeing the safety and security of the people in the state.
