Jihadists overwhelm military junta, kill 11 soldiers, 8 civilians
Jihadists on Saturday overwhelmed the military junta, killing about three soldiers, including eight civilian auxiliaries in an ambush in northern Burkina Faso.
The soldiers were said to be on patrol with the auxiliaries, when they were attacked in an ambush by the jihadists in the district of Bouroum. The attack was said to have occurred near Silmangue, in Namentenga province.
Lieutenant-Colonel Paul-Henri Sandaogo Damiba had overthrown the civilian government in the Burkina Faso in January. On September 30, he was overthrown in a counter coup by Captain Ibrahim Traore. The country has known no peace since the military coups.
