Chimamanda Adichie reveals why she stay off social media
Award-winning Nigerian writer, Chimamanda Ngozi Adichie, has opened up about her decision to stay off social media, citing self-preservation as her primary reason.
The acclaimed author, known for her fearless takes on feminism, politics, and literature, made this revelation in a recent interview.
Adichie, who has always been vocal about her discomfort with fame, admitted that while she is grateful for being widely read, she never actively sought public recognition. However, when asked about her absence from social media, she responded with striking honesty.

t was a choice of self-preservation. Not in a high-minded way, by the way. Just because I know that I will get into fights with people. And it will not end well,” she said, acknowledging her decision with a mix of practicality and self-awareness.
She elaborated on how, in an age where online disagreements can quickly escalate, she prefers to step back rather than engage in confrontations that might spiral out of control. “I know myself well enough to understand that some arguments are simply not worth the energy they demand,” she added.
In a moment of humor-tinged candor, Adichie even confessed that if someone were to provoke her online, her instinct would be to take it beyond the screen. “Oh yeah, I would find where you live and come to you,” she joked, her words laced with both amusement and the underlying truth that, for some, the digital world is not so easily separated from real life.
