Lagos Varsity gets NUC approval for 34 undergraduate programmes
By Diden Abigail Owuntarose
The National Universities Commission (NUC) has approved 34 undergraduate programmes for the Federal University of Science and Technology, Epe (FUSTECH), Lagos State, paving the way for the institution to commence admissions for the 2026/2027 academic session.
The approval, conveyed in a letter dated October 23, 2026, followed a resource verification exercise conducted by panels of experts to assess the university’s available academic staff and facilities.
According to the university, the commission approved an admission quota of 50 students for each programme, bringing the institution’s total approved intake capacity to 1,700 students.
The programmes will be offered on a full-time basis at the university’s take-off campuses. The NUC stated that the approval covers only full-time studies, adding that the institution would need to submit a separate application before introducing part-time programmes.
The approved courses are spread across five faculties: Computing and Informatics; Engineering; Allied Health Sciences; Management Sciences and Technology; and Science.
Under the Faculty of Computing and Informatics, the university will offer Computer Science, Cyber Security, Artificial Intelligence, Data Science, Information and Communication Technology, and Software Engineering.
The Faculty of Engineering received approval for 10 programmes, including Civil Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Chemical Engineering, Petroleum Engineering, Biomedical Engineering, Environmental Engineering, Systems Engineering, Geomatics Engineering, Metallurgical Engineering, and Electrical and Electronics Engineering.

Meanwhile, the Faculty of Management Sciences and Technology will offer Business Information Technology, Entrepreneurship, Logistics and Supply Chain Management, and Transportation Management.
The seven approved programmes under the Faculty of Science are Biotechnology, Forensic Science, Environmental Management and Toxicology, Marine Science, Medicinal Chemistry, Medical Physics, and Nuclear Science.
Established in November 2025, FUSTECH is among Nigeria’s newly established federal universities. The approval represents a significant step towards admitting its pioneer undergraduate students.
The university currently shares some facilities and infrastructure with Lagos State University (LASU) at its Epe campus under an interim arrangement designed to support its take-off pending relocation to its permanent site.
The Vice-Chancellor of FUSTECH, Professor Kazeem Adeola Oshikoya, expressed the university’s readiness to commence its inaugural admission process following the NUC approval.
Prospective students have been advised to monitor the university’s official website for announcements concerning the admission timetable, screening requirements and application procedures.
The development is expected to expand access to university education in Lagos State, particularly in science, technology, engineering, health and management-related disciplines.
