Tears, anger as Ibadan protesters demand freedom for abducted Oriire pupils, teachers (Video)
Emotions ran high in Ibadan on Monday as residents, youth groups, and concerned citizens staged a protest demanding the immediate release of pupils and teachers abducted during the recent attack in Oriire Local Government Area of Oyo State.
The demonstration took an emotional turn when one of the survivors of the attack broke down in tears while recounting the traumatic experience, drawing sympathy from protesters and passersby who gathered to support the call for urgent government action.
Carrying placards with various inscriptions condemning insecurity and calling for the safe return of the victims, angry youths marched through major streets of the Oyo State capital, expressing frustration over what they described as the slow pace of rescue efforts nearly three weeks after the abduction.
The protesters accused security agencies and relevant authorities of not doing enough to secure the release of the victims, insisting that the prolonged captivity of the pupils and teachers has heightened fear and anxiety among families and residents of the affected communities.

Many of the demonstrators lamented the growing insecurity in parts of the state, warning that continued attacks on schools and communities could undermine public confidence in the government’s ability to protect lives and property.
The visibly emotional survivor, whose tears reflected the trauma suffered during the incident, appealed to authorities not to relent in efforts to rescue those still being held captive.
The survivor’s emotional testimony further underscored the human cost of the attack and intensified calls for swift intervention.
Families of the abducted victims, some of whom were represented at the protest, expressed concern over the uncertainty surrounding the fate of their loved ones.
They urged security agencies to intensify search and rescue operations and provide regular updates on efforts being made to secure the victims’ freedom.
The protest highlights growing public tension and mounting pressure on authorities as relatives, friends, and community members continue to await positive news regarding the safe return of the abducted pupils and teachers.
As concerns over insecurity continue to dominate public discourse, protesters vowed to sustain advocacy efforts until all victims are rescued and reunited with their families.
