Six bandits killed in failed attack on Zamfara communities — Police
At least six suspected armed bandits were killed during a failed attack on rural communities in Zamfara State, after security forces repelled the assault, according to police authorities.
The incident reportedly occurred when armed men attempted to invade local settlements in the state, prompting a swift response from security operatives deployed in the area. The confrontation led to a gunfight in which six of the attackers were killed, while the remaining suspects fled with injuries.
Police authorities confirmed that no civilian or security personnel casualties were recorded during the operation, describing the response as successful in preventing further escalation of violence in the affected communities.
Residents in the area were said to have experienced moments of tension during the exchange of gunfire, but normalcy was restored shortly after the attackers were repelled by the combined security team.
Zamfara State has remained one of the hotspots of armed banditry in northwestern Nigeria, with recurring attacks on rural communities, kidnapping incidents, and clashes between security forces and armed groups. Security agencies have continued counter-insurgency and anti-banditry operations aimed at restoring stability in the region.
Authorities have reiterated their commitment to sustaining pressure on armed groups operating in the state, while urging residents to provide timely intelligence to support ongoing security operations.
Investigations into the latest attack are expected to continue as security forces assess the situation and monitor surrounding areas for possible threats.
