Switzerland beat Algeria to book World Cup last-16 spot
Switzerland secured a place in the Round of 16 of the FIFA World Cup with a comfortable 2-0 victory over Algeria on Thursday.
The Swiss will face the winners of Friday’s Round of 32 clash between Colombia and Ghana.
Johan Manzambi starred for Switzerland, creating the opening goal with a surging run down the left before setting up Breel Embolo, who tapped home from close range.

Dan Ndoye doubled Switzerland’s advantage less than a minute into the second half, capitalising on a weak clearance from Rafik Belghali before firing through a crowded penalty area past goalkeeper Luca Zidane.
The defeat ended Algeria’s World Cup campaign, making them the sixth African nation to exit the tournament after Côte d’Ivoire, the Democratic Republic of Congo, Senegal, South Africa and Tunisia.
Morocco remain the only African team to have reached the Round of 16.
