A fatal road accident involving a truck reportedly принадлежащий Lafarge Africa Plc has claimed the lives of three people, including two pregnant women, in the Abule Egba area of Lagos.

The crash occurred on the evening of April 21, 2026, at a busy U-turn along Abule Egba Road, a major artery known for heavy traffic during peak hours. Several other people sustained injuries in the incident, which witnesses described as chaotic and deeply distressing.

According to eyewitness accounts, the truck was travelling towards Oshodi when it suddenly developed a mechanical fault. The driver reportedly lost control of the vehicle, causing it to veer off its lane, ram into other vehicles, and plough into pedestrians.

A reporter at the scene described victims lying on the road as residents and passersby rushed to assist, with many visibly shaken.

Two pregnant women and the truck’s conductor were confirmed dead at the scene, while injured victims were transported to nearby hospitals by good Samaritans before emergency responders arrived.

The incident triggered significant traffic congestion across the Abule Egba axis, as angry residents gathered and expressed frustration over what they described as recurring accidents involving heavy-duty trucks. Many blamed poor vehicle maintenance and reckless driving practices for the трагедия, calling for stricter enforcement of safety regulations.

Officials from the Lagos State Traffic Management Authority and traffic police were later deployed to the area to manage the gridlock and restore order.

As of the time of filing this report, authorities had yet to issue an official statement on the crash.

However, residents are demanding a thorough investigation into the circumstances surrounding the incident, alongside stronger measures to prevent further loss of life on Lagos roads.
